Fall 2016 WORKSHOP SERIES

Purpose: Provide writing support for ABD (all but dissertated) students; discuss shared concerns about the dissertation process; and introduce strategies to facilitate writing. All participants should come prepared to write and work collaboratively with students from across diverse disciplines. This series will continue with three new workshops in the spring.

The workshops series is facilitated by the Writing Skills Improvement Program and the Think Tank Writing Specialist, and is sponsored by the Graduate and Professional Student Council and the Graduate Center.

Tues., Aug. 30th  (9:30am-11:30am), EDUC  102
Topic: Building Momentum

Description: In this graduate writing workshop for ABD students, we will visit ideas for regaining momentum in your writing process. Working collaboratively, we will identify shared concerns and issues, and engage in strategies to get “unstuck.”

Topic: Synthesize to Revise

Description: In this graduate writing workshop for ABD students, we will explore ways to 1) synthesize advisor and other feedback with your own research and writing goals and 2) apply a variety of revision strategies in order to craft a complete and professional final dissertation draft.

Description: In this graduate writing workshop for ABD students, we will blend writing/revising with facilitated non-evaluative peer feedback activities in order to provide you with a focused, safe space to work on your dissertation. You will have opportunities to ask questions and receive and offer feedback that is generative rather than prescriptive.
