The Graduate Center hosts a series of graduate student career support groups to help you learn about diverse careers, create your professional LinkedIn profile and elevator pitch, and build confidence in your ability to create and maintain professional connections. The groups comprise a supportive, inclusive community of peers with career staff guidance.

Fall 2025 Career Groups: Schedule and Topics
Group sizes are limited, and registration must be completed through Handshake. Light snacks will be provided to those who RSVP and attend in person. Career Groups are open to all graduate students and will be held in person & Zoom at the Graduate Center on select Thursdays from 3-4PM, twice a month. To register, click on the corresponding date.
Spring 2025 Topics:
LinkedIn Profiles: Learn how to craft a compelling and professional online presence and showcases your skills effectively. This hands-on session will guide you through optimizing your profile, building a strong network, and leveraging LinkedIn for career growth.
Strategic Job Searches: Tools, Tactics, & Timelines: This workshop equips graduate students with practical strategies to navigate the job search process with clarity and confidence. Participants will learn how to create a focused search plan, identify opportunities across sectors, and leverage tools for tracking applications.
Decoding Job Postings: Learn how to analyze and decode job postings to identify key qualifications, skills, and responsibilities, while breaking down the language and structure of job descriptions.
Resume/ CV: Enhance your job search by learning key strategies for crafting impactful and tailored documents that stand out to employers. This workshop will provide practical tips on formatting, content, and customization to help you effectively showcase your experience and skills.
Cover Letters: Learn how to write targeted cover letters that effectively communicate their fit for academic, industry, and nonprofit roles. Participants will explore structure, tone, and strategies for aligning their experiences with job descriptions to make a strong first impression.
Interview Preparation & Elevator Pitches: Master the art of first impressions. Learn how to confidently present your skills and experiences in both interviews and quick networking opportunities, ensuring you leave a lasting impact.
