Sergio Castro

Sergio is a graduate assistant for the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Consortium (UROC) and supports the Initiatives to Maximize Student Development (IMSD) programs. He is a Doctoral Candidate (All but Dissertated - ABD) in Educational Psychology with a minor in statistics. His research integrates cognitive and educational psychology to explore learning, motivation, and student development, particularly through mixed-methods and advanced quantitative approaches. Sergio’s overarching interests focus on student access and success in higher education, especially for minoritized populations.
In addition to his research, Sergio has held multiple teaching roles where he has designed and co-taught courses on educational psychology, graduate school preparation, and professional writing. His instructional work emphasizes evidence-based pedagogy, collaborative learning, and student mentorship. His commitment to equitable education, interdisciplinary research, and mentorship reflects his broader goal of fostering student success. With the time not dedicated to academics, he enjoys spending time with his future wife and friends, experimenting with cooking, and loving his dogs.
