Graduate Student Success Series: Brittany Power
The Graduate Center is pleased to celebrate Brittany Power, a Ph.D. Candidate in the School of
Middle Eastern and North African Studies, on receiving a Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowship.
“I am a PhD Candidate in the School of Middle Eastern and North African Studies, and I am an
Anthropologist. I am conducting research on Food Culture and identity production, and the
concept of “making home” among Jews in Morocco. I have just been awarded the Fulbright-
Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowship which will fund and support the second phase of my research beginning this Spring. Dr. Shelley Hawthorne Smith from the Graduate Center was most instrumental as a mentor for me during the application process. She read multiple drafts of my proposal and gave spot on feedback and direction. Rachel Nielsen was incredibly helpful with all the logistics and guiding me in the formulation of a proposed budget. Without their assistance and expert guidance, I could not have garnered this achievement.”
