Animal Research: Ethical & Regulatory Considerations (Campus Partner)

This Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) workshop provides an overview of the ethical considerations and regulatory framework involved in research with animal subjects. Participants will gain an understanding of the history of animal research and the federal regulations surrounding the use of animal subjects. In addition, the course will explain the role of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and it's responsibilities. There will also be consideration of the harm-benefit analysis that is conducted as part of the approval to use animals in research, as well as the importance of the 3 R's in reducing pain and distress. Finally, the responsibilities of animal researchers will be discussed.
