Graduate Career Groups

The Graduate Center hosts a series of graduate student career support groups to help you learn about diverse careers, create your professional LinkedIn profile and elevator pitch, and build confidence in your ability to create and maintain professional connections. The groups comprise a supportive, inclusive community of peers with career staff guidance.

Fall 2026 Career Groups: Schedule and Topics

Group sizes are limited, and registration must be completed through Handshake. Light snacks will be provided to those who RSVP and attend in person. Career Groups are open to all graduate students and will be held via Zoom on select Tuesdays from 12-1PM.  To register, click on the corresponding date. 

Fall 2026 Topics:

LinkedIn & Professional Networking: Build a strong professional presence online by creating an effective LinkedIn profile that highlights your skills and experiences. Participants will learn strategies for growing their professional network, networking confidently in virtual spaces, engaging with employers and alumni, and using LinkedIn to support career exploration and job searching.

Career Exploration: Tools, Strategies, & Next Steps: This interactive workshop equips graduate students with practical strategies to explore career pathways with confidence. Participants will identify transferable skills, research career options across industries, and leverage online tools to discover opportunities that align with their interests, values, and professional goals.

Decoding Job Postings: Learn how to analyze and decode job postings to identify key qualifications, skills, and responsibilities, while breaking down the language and structure of job descriptions.

Resume/ CV: Enhance your job search by learning key strategies for crafting impactful and tailored documents that stand out to employers. This workshop will provide practical tips on formatting, content, and customization to help you effectively showcase your experience and skills.

Cover Letters: Learn how to write targeted cover letters that effectively communicate their fit for academic, industry, and nonprofit roles. Participants will explore structure, tone, and strategies for aligning their experiences with job descriptions to make a strong first impression.

Interview Preparation & Elevator Pitches: Master the art of first impressions. Learn how to confidently present your skills and experiences in both interviews and quick networking opportunities, ensuring you leave a lasting impact.

Grad Send-Off: Drop- In Career Support: Stop by during this dedicated time to get real-time feedback on your resume, cover letters, and job applications, ask questions about decoding job postings, and practice interview strategies. This is also an accountability hour, giving you space to make progress on your applications while working alongside peers who are navigating the same transition. Leave with stronger materials, clearer direction, and greater confidence as you move from graduation to career.
