Isis Burks

Isis Burks (she/her/hers) is a Graduate Assistant in the Graduate Center’s Office of Career Services. She assists graduate students with developing career plans, and she facilitates workshops in career exploration, networking, and professional development. Isis is originally from Lincoln, Nebraska where she graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a B.A. in Psychology. During her time there, she had numerous teaching opportunities and leadership experiences. She is currently a fourth-year Ph.D. student in School Psychology in the Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies. Her research interests center on the educational experiences of Black students and families, with particular attention to school belonging, culturally responsive and inclusive practices, family perspectives, student mental health, and well-being within educational systems. Her work is informed by an interest in understanding how schools can create more equitable and supportive environments for historically marginalized students.  In her free time, Isis enjoys trying new restaurants, traveling to new places, and going to concerts.
