Andy Gomes Barbosa

Andy Gomes Barbosa is a Spanish and Portuguese PhD candidate from Recife, Brazil. He was awarded the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship in 2021 through which he served as a Portuguese Teaching Assistant at Washington and Lee University. He majored in English and Portuguese from Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso do Sul (2016) and received his Master's degree in Portuguese from the University of New Mexico (2025). His research interests include marginalized authors in Brazilian literature, most significantly those who represent minorities. Andy loves music and has a huge vinyl and CD collection. An avid learner, Andy taught himself English, to cook, and to draw.
