Hlib Burtsev

Hlib Burtsev is Ukrainian doctoral student in the department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology interested in the diversity of behaviors and adaptations exhibited by ants. Prior to coming to the University of Arizona, he earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University where he focused on systematics and phylogenetics of Formicidae as well as areas of mathematical modeling, comparative analysis, and fieldwork. His research at U of A combines these areas to explore which approaches different species of ants have evolved to optimally gain and distribute available resources, and how these approaches can apply to engineering, logistics, and cognitive sciences. He is excited to conduct this research at U of A because of the University's prime location as a hotspot for ant diversity in the United States.

Outside of his academic pursuits, Hlib spends his time in doing photography, music, video games, and the arts.
