Swapnaneel "Neel" Dey

Swapnaneel "Neel" Dey is a PhD student in the Applied Mathematics Graduate Interdisciplinary Program at the University of Arizona, where he also completed his undergraduate degree in Astronomy in May 2025. His research interests span machine learning, astrophysics, and developing novel computational methods for tackling complex problems. As an undergraduate, Neel published a paper in The Astrophysical Journal, "Citizen Science Identification of Isolated Blue Stellar Systems in the Virgo Cluster." He also completed an internship at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, where he took part in the now-famous prank of changing the building's logo to "Astrology." Outside of research, Neel enjoys cooking, hiking, playing pickleball and watching sports.
