Caleb Yuan is a doctoral student in Educational Psychology. Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Caleb earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Creative Writing from Lawrence University. Caleb’s interest in Educational Psychology is informed by his bicultural upbringing – he was born in Maryland but grew up in Beijing, China, and returned to the US at age 15 – and formative experiences as a tutor, summer school instructor, and CPAR research facilitator. His research interests focus on the intersection of student motivation and community efforts in education, and he is excited to explore how applied and community-based research can make education more relatable, thought-provoking, and inspiring for students in Tucson and elsewhere. In addition to his academic pursuits, Caleb volunteers his teaching and research experience to create lesson plans on Wisconsin Native American history and culture, and he looks forward to contributing in similar fashion in Tucson. Outside of his academic pursuits, Caleb is an avid volleyball, basketball, pickleball, and badminton player, a practitioner of reflection and contemplation through writing and poetry, and a lamb biryani enthusiast.
